A Ceres man who police say stabbed his wife to death in May will be reviewed by a psychologist to determine whether he is competent to stand trial, authorities said.

Ceres police arrested 85-year-old Piara Johal on May 25 on suspicion of stabbing and killing his 86-year-old wife, Jagir, authorities said. Piara Johal appeared in court Monday and officials decided to send him for the review, said Carol Shipley, assistant district attorney in Stanislaus County.

Johal remains in custody at Stanislaus County Jail with a bail of $1 million.
