A head-on collision Sunday afternoon southwest of Turlock involved three vehicles and left several people, including a 1½-year-old girl, with major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol arrested the 27-year-old Hughson man believed to have caused the crash on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, officer Robert Daniels said.

Officials said the man, driving north, failed to stop at a stop sign on South Tegner Road just south of West Bradbury Road. His Ford pickup hit a green Dodge Stratus in the intersection, then collided head-on with a white Chevy Venture van traveling south on Tegner on the other side of Bradbury, police said.

The 37-year-old Turlock woman driving the van was flown to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries. Two girls in the car, ages 5 and 7, were taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center. A 23-year-old woman in the back of the Dodge was flown to Doctors Medical Center, and the 1½-year-old girl who also was in the back was flown to the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento, possibly with a broken femur and broken arm.

The 23-year-old man driving the Dodge sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to Emanuel. The three are from Gustine. The Ford's driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Doctors. Names were not available Sunday.
