TURLOCK — There would be no comeback for the Pitman High football team this week.

Granite Bay, the defending Division II section champion, defeated the Pride 29-13 on Friday at Joe Debely Stadium.

Pitman scored two touchdowns in the second half after falling behind 15-0 and finished with a respectable 173 yards of offense after struggling to gain 38 yards before halftime.

The Pride, which rallied from a 14-0 deficit to beat Paradise 21-20 in its opener, got two touchdown passes from quarterback Tyler Snodgrass. He hit Jeremy Davis for a 6-yard scoring pass late in the third quarter to put Pitman on the board, 22-7.

Matt Lavender caught a 10-yard pass just inside the end zone late in the fourth to complete an eight-play, 75-yard drive. Snodgrass, who missed one play toward the end of the third quarter when he appeared to get the wind knocked out of him, completed 5 of 10 passes with an interception for 37 yards.

Davis led Pitman with 115 yards on 16 carries and caught two passes for 10 yards. Granite Bay (1-0) got touchdowns runs of 4 and 2 yards from leading rusher Clark Partridge. The senior running back led the Grizzlies with 119 yards on 21 carries.

Quarterback Teddy Bryant threw for 80 yards on 6 of 16 pass completions, getting picked off by Jacob Cooksey and Robert Beale. Bryant threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Herlitz and ran in for the two-point conversion to put Granite Bay ahead 15-0 early in the second quarter. Granite Bay's other touchdown came on a 4-yard Matt Kine run.

Pitman had better luck stopping the Grizzlies after halftime. Granite Bay gained 258 of its 397 offensive yards in the first half.

TRACY 55, LOS BANOS 48, at Tracy — Rubal Sangha scored five TDs, catching four scoring passes and returning a kickoff 94 yards for another, but the Tigers couldn't match scores with the Bulldogs. Tracy led 28-6 early in the second quarter and was up 55-26 before the Tigers began their comeback.

Sangha's kick return, and scoring catches of 3 and 33 yards, helped bring Los Banos to within 55-48 before time ran out. Erik Martin (28 of 45 for 356 yards and four TDs) threw all four TDs to Sangha, who had three TDs in last week's season-opening rout of Fresno. Sangha caught 12 passes for 160 yards.

SIERRA 36, BUHACH COLONY 28, at Atwater — The host Falcons were hurt by six turnovers, including three in the fourth quarter, allowing the Timberwolves to escape with a win.

Sierra's Jarrod Daniels scored five TDs and the Timberwolves used a 21-point run to take the lead. His 73-yard yard scamper to start the fourth put Sierra ahead to stay.

Daniels finished with 156 yards on 22 touches, but he was the beneficiary of a seemingly unstoppable no-huddle offense.

"We wanted to tire their defense out," said Sierra quarterback Ryan Flores, 18 of 24 for 188 yards. "When the defense is tired, it's easier to get those runs up the middle. It showed with Jarrod getting all those TDs."

Since opening its doors in 2001, Buhach Colony (1-1) has never beaten Sierra — now eight in a row.

BC sophomore running back Corey Chapman gashed Sierra's defense for 175 yards and two scores, and receiver Hodari Peterson had 11 catches for 177 yards.
