BODY IN RIVER IDENTIFIED: A man whose body was found Saturday in the Tuolumne River near Legion Park has been identified as 44-year-old Duane Yeager, according to the Stanislaus County coroner's office. Yeager drowned. Swimmers found his body Saturday afternoon. The Modesto Police Department is investigating.
BOY HURT IN COLLISION IMPROVING: A Turlock boy was in fair condition Monday after suffering major injuries Thursday in a head-on collision on Highway 33 near Gustine. Fabian Gonzalez, 11, was airlifted to the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento in critical condition after a man authorities believe might have been drunk hit the Toyota that Fabian was riding in just after 9 p.m. Roman Huerta, 34, of Los Banos, was driving the Chevrolet van that crashed into the Toyota. Huerta was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. He was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and driving without a license, the CHP said. Huerta was in stable condition Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
MARIJUANA PLANTS DESTROYED: The Tuolumne Narcotics Team destroyed about 6,400 marijuana plants from an area near Beardsley Reservoir, authorities reported. Officials got to the site Friday and found that the growers had harvested 75 percent of the plants Thursday night, Tuolumne County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Dan Bressler said. No arrests were made. Authorities estimated that each plant was worth $1,000 to $2,000. Bressler said officials have removed 70,000 marijuana plants this season.
