Bee's 2008 All-District Track and Field Teams

• MATT MALDONADO
Modesto senior

The area's second-best distance runner placed fifth in the state in the 1,600-meter run. Was also second in the 1,600 at the section Masters meet.

• ANDREW RAY
Buhach Colony senior

All-District cross country runner just missed out on state meet berth when he placed fourth in the section in the 1,600. Was a double CCC champion.

• JOSHUA DAY
Pitman senior

Just missed a state meet berth when he placed fifth in the section Masters in the pole vault after clearing 14-4. Was also the section Division I runner-up in the pole vault.

• RONYEA ELLINGTON
Patterson junior

The area's high jump leader cleared 6-6 several times and 6-7 once. Placed fourth in the section Masters meet — one place from the state meet — by clearing 6-4 in his specialty.

• DEREK SINCLAIR
Sierra senior

The first Sierra athlete to go to state in his events, Sinclair was the section shot put and discus champ. Was 13th in the state in the shot and 20th in the discus.

• ROBERTO ROSAS
Davis sophomore

Sophomore was a surprise champion in the 3,200-meter run at section Division I championships. Was seventh in the same race at the section Masters meet.

• ABDIEL MARTINEZ-RAMOS
East Union senior

One of the area's top 400-meter runners, Martinez-Ramos was the section Division III champion in that race and followed that up with a sixth-place finish at Masters.

• CRYSTAL ESPARZA
Beyer senior

University of California signee and all-District cross country selection was third in the section and 19th in the state in the 1,600. Was a double MMC champ (800, 1,600).

• TARYN GARZA
Modesto Christian sophomore

The area's top 400 runner was about a second from qualifying for state with her fourth-place finish at section Masters. Was one of the best in 200 and high jump as well.

• RACHEL HAMMAR
Buhach Colony senior

Advanced to the state meet for the second consecutive year, placing seventh in the shot put and ninth in the discus. Will throw for Long Beach State.

• SABLE BROWNING
Merced senior

The Bee's 2007 cross country runner of the year was second in the section Masters 1,600 and 24th in the state. Also was third in the section Division I championships.

• CASSANDRA WOODALL
East Union senior

Shot put specialist was 15th in the state, second at the section Masters meet and was the section Division III champion. Was also a double VOL champion.

• KENDALL MORRIS
Beyer senior

Headed to Cal along with Beyer teammate Esparza, Morris was fifth in the state in the discus. She qualified third in the event with a personal-best throw of 152-1 in the state trials.

• MORGAN VIGIL
Golden Valley senior

Won the section Division I pole vault title when she cleared 10-1 at Hughes Stadium. Cleared a personal-best 10-3 at the section Masters meet, but it wasn't enough to move on to state.

• ANTHONY CHAPMAN
Sierra High coach

Sierra High graduate led the Timberwolves boys team to the Valley Oak League championship and the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III team title.
