Junie B. Jones, the first-grade star of a popular book series, is bringing her Stupid Smelly Bus Tour to Modesto on Monday.

A bright-pink bus packed with books will stop at 5 p.m. at John Thurman Field in south Modesto.

The stop features a live theatrical performance, free souvenirs and an official book stamping for readers of the series.

Junie B. will open her Big Pink Trunk of Junk for a show-and-tell of some of her favorite things.

Some 2,000 children are expected to greet Junie B. during the free Modesto Bee-sponsored event, which includes admittance to the Modesto Nuts baseball game.

The bus tour is very popular with children. Some 300 youngsters were expected but 1,100 showed up at Junie B.s 2006 stop at Modesto Junior College.

The books, written by Barbara Park, have sold 44 million copies since 1992.

Launched in 2004 as part of the June Is Junie B. Month promotional campaign, the Stupid Smelly Bus Tour has become a summertime staple for fans.
