MILWAUKEE Ben Spies would like to stay dry, set a record, win a championship and move to Europe, in that order.
Bet against Mother Nature, if you like, but go ahead and put a few bucks on the two-time defending AMA Superbike champion to handle the parts of the job he can control.
Spies, a 23-year-old Texan, can make history Saturday at Road America, where he will attempt to score his seventh consecutive victory, a feat unprecedented in the premier class of American motorcycle road racing.
"I'm going to go for it, but I'm also going to treat it like any other race," Spies said. "If it doesn't happen I'm not going to lose sleep over it Saturday night.
"It's not as big as winning the championship ... but it's something I would like to have."
Feature races in the AMA Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader are scheduled for 1:40 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhart Lake track.
