Thursday's A-1 story on Spam keeping food budgets in the pink had some people reminiscing about the old days and meals of Spam and eggs, Spam sandwiches and pan-fried Spam with potatoes or some kind of veggies.

Said he in an e-mail: "Mom made something like this for us when we were kids in Kansas; I think the recipe probably originated during the Great Depression or World War II. I think Mom occasionally put dill or chives in the Spam soup, just for variety."
