BABY MAMA
PG-13
Tina Fey is the main reason to see this comedy about motherhood. Fey plays Kate, a successful and single career woman who has risen to the vice presidency of a national chain of natural-food groceries. But at 37, Kate hears her biological clock ticking. She hooks up with Angie (Amy Poehler), a gum-snapping citizen of the white-trash nation willing to rent out her womb. (PG-13)

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN
The second film based on the classic
C.S. Lewis fantasy series continues the saga with Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy returning to the kingdom one year later. It's simultaneously darker and funnier, more substantive and more engaging, more violent and more technically accomplished. (PG)

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL
For all of its seeming assembly-line predictability, this turns out to be a hilariously subversive take on manhood and romance in the 21st century. It also showcases a nervy, unflappable but sweet performance by Jason Segel that should turn the actor into a star. Segel plays Peter Bretter, whose girlfriend, Sarah, breaks up with him, fracturing his perfect world. (R)

HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY
The poster for this film is the best thing about the movie, depicting the brainy potheads in orange prison jumpsuits staring in disbelief from behind a fence. That one still image captures all the inherent humor of two wily-as-Bugs Bunny guys who are about to bust out of the U.S. military's main boarding house for terrorism suspects. (R)

IN BRUGES
Teeming with goofball patter and profanity, gunfire and jokes at the expense of dwarfs and Yanks, playwright Martin McDonagh's cracking good yarn follows a pair of Irish hit men stuck in the picturesque Belgian burg, grappling with questions of honor, friendship and mortality. Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell star. (R)

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL
"Crystal Skull" shows up as "Indiana Jones' Greatest Hits," recycling sequences from the terrific 1980s trilogy, reusing that splendid, jaunty John Williams score, reminiscing over cast members not on board this time or no longer with us. Is that enough of a reason to see it? You bet your bullwhip it is. Ford, now 65, may have lost a step, but this Indy lets him age out of the role with grace and style. (PG-13)

IRON MAN
½
"Iron Man" is as complex as its conflicted protagonist. It's a slickly engineered special-effects extravaganza with a saucy sense of humor, a well-acted adult take on juvenile escapism. The first movie self-financed by Marvel Studios, it combines the thrills of a summer popcorn spectacular with the craftsmanship of a prestige picture. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), the tycoon inside Iron Man's shiny shell, isn't a simplistic comic-book hero fighting for lofty ideals. He's deeply flawed -- a drinker, a womanizer, a clotheshorse, a gambler driven by greed and a lust for high living. (PG-13)

MADE OF HONOR
½
It starts out as a tribute to "When Harry Met Sally" and steadily backslides toward a less-than-honorable "My Best Friend's Wedding" remake. Fortunately, "Made of Honor," a star vehicle for Patrick Dempsey, earns enough good will in a long, clever and sexy opening act to carry through to an ending that we don't necessarily guess because it seems to lack enough of that last word in the title: "honor." SPEED RACER
A live-action version of the cheesy '60s Japanese anime series about a young race-car driver and his odd family. The minimalist animation used to create the cartoon is what made the show a cult hit. That's where the directors made their big mistake. They treat "Speed Racer" with the reverence of Grand Prix racing. That's most obvious with Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch). Speed goes from being the emotionless, voice-out-of-sync character of the cartoon to James Dean in a Hot Wheels car. When Speed isn't lamenting the death of his brother, he is taking a stand against the corruption of big business. (PG)

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS
This film follows the standard rom-com design, giving us two funny, neurotic people (Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz) who are in love with each other but don't know it. But by being a smidge smarter than the average date movie, it makes the first-time meeting, the battle of the sexes and the bumpy course of true love entertaining despite overfamiliarity. (PG-13)
