Unfortunately, the recent letter to the editor regarding the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act was misleading ("Farm animals, people would suffer," April 24). Animals suffer terribly in California factory farms -- and it's truly difficult to imagine anything more basic and modest than allowing these animals to turn around and extend their limbs. At a time when egg producers are enjoying record profits, and California's already thriving cage-free egg industry is growing, it's ridiculous that factory farming interests are grumbling about this common-sense initiative that would simply afford animals some minimal protection from the worst abuses. California residents who care about animals will be voting "yes" on the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act in November. The Web site http://humanecalifornia.org has more information.
