THE OWNERS: Mike Yoshida and John Dengler, both of Modesto
THE CAR: A 1969 Chevrolet Camaro
WHAT SPARKED THE INTEREST: "I have always been a huge fan of the '60s-era muscle car and in particular the Camaro 'First Generation' line," said Yoshida.
"John and I restored a 1967 Camaro a year ago, but the '69 was the one that I truly loved, so we sold the '67 and searched high and low till we found this car," Yoshida said.
They found the car on eBay and drove to Indio to get it.
"The car was no cream puff by any stretch of the imagination," Yoshida said. "We sanded it down to bare metal and basically started from scratch. Every piece of the car, the complete electrical system, the engine, transmission, suspension, interior and exhaust, have all undergone extensive restoration, so basically, this is a brand-new car."
The car sports a new L78 396 motor, a turbo 400 transmission, lowered front end, all new trick gauges and an awesome paint job. The engine has only 176 miles on it now.
A FAVORITE MEMORY: Going down and actually getting to pick up the car was the highlight for both men. They did a 24-hour turnaround to Indio and were really excited to get it back up here so they could start work on it. They are looking forward to showing it off in the upcoming car shows -- the 5-Minute Car Wash Show, Mike's Roadhouse and Graffiti Weekend.
