More job cuts are in store for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. During a meeting Thursday, the lab's director told employees he's proposing as many as 700 layoffs this year.

The announcement comes on the heels of about 500 layoffs announced in November. The first notices hit workers last week.

The announcement comes amid discussion of a tighter federal budget and a move to streamline the country's nuclear weapons complex.

The lab employs about 7,800 workers. Of them, a third live in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, according to lab spokeswoman Lynda Seaver.
