The family of Michael Ilttreb, the 18-year-old from Ceres who was shot at a party last summer, has offered a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.

"Our family has been praying and talking to people in the community in hope of someone/something concrete to come forward," Ilttreb's brother, Jesus Lopez, wrote Sunday in an e-mail to The Bee.

Ilttreb was shot July 8 at a house party on 10th Street in Ceres. His friends told his family he was not the intended target.

"Our understanding is that it was an accident," Lopez said last summer. "They told us Michael was behind the yard trying to get away from all the shots."

Ceres police have not commented on the circumstances of the shooting.

Police have been talking to people of interest but have made no arrests, said Detective Trenton Johnson. No weapon has been found.

Lopez, who lives in Fresno, was home in Ceres with his mother, Candelaria, for Christmas. They visited Ilttreb's grave in Ceres Memorial Park. They were not alone.

"While we were there, on Christmas Day, a group of people came by to visit Michael, too. It made me feel really good knowing that people still care about Michael and come to visit him," Lopez wrote. "My mother constantly visits the Ceres cemetery."

Ilttreb's family and Ceres police ask anyone with information about his death to call Johnson at 538-5729.
