There's nothing simple when it comes to deciphering Escalon High's deceptive wing-T offense, unless you happen to be Nick Aprile and you're directing the attack.

"We have a variety of sets and motions, and it's a challenge trying to master all of the different options a quarterback has," said coach Mark Loureiro. "Nick, though, has been running this offense since Pop Warner and he has no problem handling the misdirection, the hand-offs or taking off and running it."

Aprile had 12 carries for 201 yards and two TDs, and completed six of seven passes for 93 yards as Escalon routed Trans-Valley League contender Hughson 43-7. He also had five tackles and a fumble recovery.

"There's no question Nick has the ability to throw the ball more than he has," said Loureiro, whose senior has completed 24 of 43 for 372 yards, three TDs and two interceptions. "As you get deeper into the playoffs, you have to be balanced, so I see us throwing more often."
