Electrician Brent Maynor sees his youth as an advantage in his run for the Modesto City Council.

The 26-year-old is competing against three more- experienced men in a bid to succeed Councilman Bob Dunbar, who is not seeking re-election.

Maynor said he has a strong work ethic and a commitment to achieving his broad goals that could get him elected.

He recently sat with The Bee to discuss his campaign.

Q: Why are you running for City Council?

A: I'm running for City Council to advocate for increased teacher pay, to increase funding for emergency services and to bring skilled labor to Modesto.

Q: Was there an experience in your life that made you want to get involved with local government?

A: Look at the national government. It's a mess. It makes me want to get involved with my local government.

Q What's your top priority if you get elected?

A: Bringing skilled labor to Modesto. It betters not just the skilled laborers, but it betters the whole city. It brings a higher level of pay, which brings more taxes for the city. The more money that's here, the more businesses that want to come here. You stop people from going over the hill and wasting gas.
