Case in Vegas may interest Modesto police

Scott Peterson's defense team refused to comment on its interest in a woman whose dismembered remains were found in a body of water in Nevada. But attorney Mark Geragos said Thursday he was aware of the case.

An Alameda man has been arrested in the death of the Nevada woman.

The woman's head, hands and feet were not recovered, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Nevada

authorities were not available for confirmation Thursday afternoon.

Laci Peterson's body, discovered on the shore of San Francisco Bay on April 14, was recovered without a head and feet, sources have told The Bee.

Modesto police spokesman Doug Ridenour said Thursday he had not heard about any contact between local authorities and Nevada law enforcement.

Scott Peterson, 30, has been charged in the slayings of his wife, Laci, 27, and their unborn son, Conner. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Peterson's Los Angeles attorney, Mark Geragos, refused to comment on the Las Vegas case Thursday, citing a court-imposed gag order. The defense team has talked in court about finding evidence pointing to "the real killers."

Perry Carl Monroe, 29, of Alameda was arrested Tuesday in Fresno on suspicion of slaying Ladonna Milam, 49, of Boulder City, which is near Las Vegas.

The Fresno Bee reported Wednesday that Monroe was asleep in his car when California Highway Patrol officers, checking his registration, learned he was wanted in connection with a murder.

Milam, a porter at a hotel-casino near Hoover Dam, took towels to Monroe's room at his request Sunday night, according to a Las Vegas police news release.

Police later found packaging for a hacksaw and hacksaw blades in a trash can in Monroe's room, according to an arrest warrant reviewed by the Review-Journal.

Officers recovered a hotel surveillance video and saw someone matching Monroe's description wearing a backpack and carrying a large duffel bag toward the hotel elevator, according to the Review-Journal.

A woman walking her dog at Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City noticed body parts in a fishing pond early the next morning, according to Boulder City and Las Vegas police. Authorities found blood-soaked women's clothing in a trash bin nearby, the Review-Journal said.

Monroe had registered at the hotel under his name and paid with a credit card, the Review-Journal reported.
