Modesto PD: Latest Peterson rumor false

The Modesto Police Department said Thursday afternoon that reports of the discovery of Laci Peterson’s body are false.

The false information, which started circulating Thursday morning, included reports of remains being found in Fresno County, Madera County, and even under the home owned by Peterson and her husband, Scott.

“There is a rumor about a body being found,” said Detective Doug Ridenour, police spokesman. “No one has contacted this department (informing us of a body being found) and we have not responded to any inquiries regarding that rumor.”

Ridenour also said that there were no plans to serve another search warrant on the Peterson house in the 500 block of Covena Avenue or to hold any press conferences about the case.
