'QUAKES OWNER: LET'S SHAKE IT UP

The San Jose Earthquakes are attempting to have Tottenham Hotspur come to the United States for an exhibition soccer game next summer. Earthquakes owner Lew Wolff said his first choice was to have his team play Tottenham in England, but the scheduling of a trip there during the MLS regular season was too difficult. Wolff also said he'd like to see matches against foreign clubs count in the MLS standings. Wolff disclosed that as part of his agreement to buy the San Jose expansion franchise, MLS agreed that David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy would make two visits a season to San Jose during the Earthquakes' first three seasons.

HE OWNS A'S, TOO

Wolff has a way to shorten baseball's postseason. "I'd make it one-game-and- you're-out for the first series," the A's owner said at a New York meeting of owners. "It would be exciting. It would be great." Begun in 1995, the division series has been a best-of-5 affair. Some have advocated it be expanded to best-of-7, matching the league championship series and the World Series. Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has said he favors the current format. Wolff said he hasn't brought up his concept with Selig. "No, I'm afraid to do that," he said.

'PACMAN' RETURNS

The NFL is giving Adam "Pacman" Jones another chance. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the suspended cornerback has been reinstated by league commissioner Roger Goodell, but he must miss two more games -- this Sunday and the following game on Thanksgiving. He'll return Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh. Jerry Jones would not reveal any conditions the commissioner may have imposed and the league office said it would not have any immediate comment. Pacman was suspended for the 2007 season because of multiple incidents while with the Tennessee Titans. He was then traded to the Cowboys, who gave Jones a security team to help keep him in line. But on Oct. 7, Jones got into an alcohol-related scuffle with one of the bodyguards. Jones spent part of his time away undergoing alcohol rehabilitation.
