Discrimination based on sexual orientation was found unconstitutional. In May, the California Supreme Court ruled that equal protection under the law outweighs religious beliefs concerning the right of an individual to marry the one they choose.
Disinformation, mainly from religious organizations, wrongly led voters to believe that Proposition 8 would require schools to teach our children about gay marriage. Not true. My real concern is that some religious leaders would mislead the voters. I was taught that lying is a sin. If some of God's children now believe that the end justifies the means, I respectively recommend that the Nine Commandments replace that old and outdated religious tenet, the Ten Commandments.
I do have sympathy for believers that were swept up in the "Yes on 8" campaign, but remember, judge not, lest ye be judged.
Since May, 19,000 same-sex marriages were performed in California. During that period I have not heard of even a single case where same sex marriage caused harm to traditional marriage -- have you?

All of the letters published here and appearing online came in before Wednesday's court ruling, refusing to allow gay couples to resume marrying but agreeing to hear legal challenges.
