Letters to the Editor

Pope Benedict recently opened the door for dialogue with Episcopalian and Anglican priests to consider reuniting with the original Christian church. This speaks loudly in favor of the ecumenical spirit he has brought to the papacy, continuing Pope John Paul II's similar efforts.

After reading the article "Animal clinic's fate up for vote" (Oct. 27, Page A-1), I agree with building a new shelter. I'm sick of seeing homeless animals dead in the streets because they're out running amok in the city because they have no home. The new shelter would provide sterilization for animals at little to no cost, which is needed for the county's overpopulation of dogs and cats. I think it would be very positive and beneficial to the other shelters in the county as well. It would lower the shelter population of animals; therefore reduce the cost of sheltering those animals.

In response to the letter about the discovery of "Ida" ("No family resemblance here," Nov. 3), remember the Soup Nazi on "Seinfield"? I think we need a Vaccine Nazi. "No H1N1 vaccine for you!" to all the creationists and intelligent designers who continue in their dog-fast belief that evolution is an invalidated theory. Please, stop misquoting Charles Darwin, who never postulated that "we evolved from apes." If you don't believe that species change over time through mutations, gene transcription and other means to adapt to changing environments, then mutating viruses should not exist as well. Why bother developing new flu vaccines every year? Stop accepting the vast benefits from science and denigrate it at the same time. "No H1N1 vaccine for you, but please have your children and pregnant wives inoculated just in case."
