2 challengers, 2 incumbents ahead in Modesto schools race

Incumbents Cindy Marks and Nancy Cline and two challengers - Sue Zwhalen and Ruben Villalobos - appeared to win election to the Modesto City Schools board tonight.

With 95 percent of the precincts reporting, Zwahlen led all candidates with 9,276 votes, or 17 percent of votes cast. Marks was second with 7,320 votes, or 13 percent; Villalobos was third with 7,087 votes, or 13 percent; and Cline was fourth with 6,501 votes, or 12 percent.

Challenger Solange Altman was next with 5,976 votes or 11 percent, just ahead of Jim Standart with 5,866.

Incumbent Steve Collins was seventh with 5,381 votes, challenger Josh Vander Veen was eight with 4,229 and Incumbent Belinda Rolicheck last with 3,509.
