2 dead in Sacramento-area construction zone crash

A construction worker and a driver died in an early morning accident today in a construction zone in Sacramento County's Arden Arcade neighborhood.

About 1:30 a.m., a female driver struck one member of a construction crew working at Marconi and Howe avenues, said California Highway Patrol officer Jason Gonzales.

The construction worker was killed instantly. The woman was killed when her vehicle then plowed into a large piece of construction equipment, Gonzales said.

Several traffic lanes were closed for hours but were reopened about 6 a.m. The accident is still under investigation.
