Fire burns house, vehicle

Fire crews put out a house fire this morning on the 700 block of Empire Avenue in the Airport District.

Battalion Chief Mark Johansen with the Modesto Fire Department said they received a call at 4:57 a.m. about a vehicle fire that was catching the side of a house on fire. He said the vehicle appeared abandoned and nobody was living in the house. The fire spread to the attic, he said.

Johansen said he did not see any signs of arson but that a fire investigator is on the scene. Fire crews were leaving the site at about 7 a.m.
