Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Coffee Road and Briggsmore Avenue about 4 a.m. today, injuring 6 people, police spokesman Sgt. Brian Findlen said.

Two of the injured were in critical condition. One of them was flown for treatment at a hospital in Sacramento.

Police closed the intersection for several hours and it was still partially blocked as of late morning while police investigated.

Coffee and Briggsmore is one of the major crossroads in the city. Memorial Medical Center is on the northeast corner and the Calvary Temple church complex is on the northwest corner.

Anyone who witnessed any of the events involved in the accident are urged to call the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit at (209) 572-9592.

Editor's note: This story will be updated early this afternoon with more details and video from the scene.
