Deputies say victim was lured to house, stabbed many times

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man and a woman in connection with a stabbing Wednesday night in Waterford that left a 44-year-old man in the hospital with major injuries.

The Sheriff's Department has identified the suspects as Raymond Marquez, 31, and Cynthia Telly, 28, both of Waterford. Both are wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and robbery, authorities said.

"This was a vicious attack," said deputy Tom Letras. "It appears he was stabbed 16 to 19 times."

The call came in about 9:15 p.m. regarding a stabbing on Dorsey Street between E and F streets.

"My partner and I get there," Letras said. "The victim is lying in the driveway, and I could see his whole back was covered in blood."

The victim, also of Waterford, was flown to a Modesto-area hospital. He was in stable condition Thursday, Letras said. His wounds do not appear to be life threatening.

Deputies followed a trail of blood to an alley north of the driveway, where the man was found. The attack appears to have happened in a vacant home near the alley.

According to authorities, the victim had received two phone calls from a woman named "Cindy" who wanted to talk to him or borrow money, Letras said.

"Then a guy pops out from the alley and says, 'Hey, Cindy wants to talk to you.' The victim gets up and walks over to the alley. Between eight and 10 minutes later, he walks back stabbed. He said it was Cindy's boyfriend that did it," Letras said.

The victim identified his attackers to detectives, Letras said, pointing out Telly as "Cindy" and Marquez as the person who had come out of the alley.

"She lured him into this vacant house," Letras said. "It was a setup."

The Sheriff's Department asks anyone with information about this stabbing to call Detective Greg Gilstrap at 525-7080 or CrimeStoppers at 521-4636. Callers to CrimeStoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
